We travel here and don't mind the trip a single bit. This is a truly mature, civilized experience. A wonderful meal, beautiful atmosphere without being fussy and false. Magnificent relaxing service and meal each time.

Small and lovely, it reminds me of an actual bistro in Paris. The entire staff is genuinely friendly and attentive, service is fast and always available without intruding. The food was beyond wonderful. Brussels sprout salad, coq au vin, and scallops were each perfect in their own way. Hard to imagine doing better than this, and prices are fair.

We love L'Ardoise. I feel lucky to live in the neighborhood. Also, it never fails to impress visitors. The food by itself is great, but the environment and especially the staff really add to the whole experience. We feel like dining with friends everytime we go there. Impeccable service.

Excellent small cozy neighborhood bistro. Fairly rich but in a good way if you are seeking high quality french comfort food. Butter lettuce Salad was perfectly dressed, light and crisp, with white anchovy...followed by the prawn raviolis which were somehow both decadent and light at the same time...followed by the duck confit and filet mignon, both served with incredibly delicious but richly cooked potatoes (again, somehow very rich but still not over the top).

This spot is awesome! Fair rates, considerable dishes and the employees are consistently very friendly.

French food and the feeling here is great. Two thumbs up for this place. The staff was very sociable and kind. It has a great interior.

Our favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Cozy neighborhood French bistro. You feel like you’ve stepped into a warm bistro in Paris. Entrees are more than enough food. Wine selection is great - the French wines are lighter and wonderful. And the staff are genuinely warm and welcoming - the service is one of the best in the city. If you’re by yourself there’s a nice little counter bar to sit at. The pommes landaise are absolutely delicious.

A quaint little restaurant with French charm. The food was very good and the service excellent. I had the escargot, a tasty rendition of the traditional offering. The Coq Au Vin was excellent. The outside of the chicken skin was cooked crispy as I like and immersed in a lovely sauce. A must visit.

Duck confit was yummy. Their fries were addictive. Sole special tonight with risotto was made to perfection. Service was expedient. Would love to come back to try other dishes again.

We enjoy eating out. Last night we found this fine restaurant which we didn’t know before. We passed a lovely experience there with superb meal and a professional stuff and a professional chef. We added this venue in our phone list and we shall surely come back soon. Highly recommended.

Magnificent! Greatest French food on this side of the Atlantic, great service and out of this world deserts

This quaint French Resto rocks. The staff is multidisciplinary in their approach at receiving you and making sure that you are attended to and pleased with the entire eating experience. Whoever is not occupied with one table, will make sure the other patrons are tended to. They are French! But not pretentious. The Chef is superb and prepares your parties dishes simultaneously and they are served promptly. In other words the food doesn’t sit around and get cold waiting for a your waiter to bring them out because they all work for you. And they serve the food on warm plates. The menu is diverse, the ingredients fresh, top rate and the experience well worthwhile. It really is a must to check it out.

We came here with close friends based on all the great reviews. It is really that good! Charming, small neighborhood gem. We shared the charcuterie plate, butter lettuce salad, and the evening special, quail/arugula salad. All were outstanding. Two of us had the Mary’s chicken breast. Incredibly moist with a great sauce. The mashed potatoes was topped with spinach leaves and very creamy. The other two among the four of us had the special pork tenderloin over mashed potatoes. Again, the sauce was outstanding. A really good wine list with excellent wines by the glass. We would definitely run back to this restaurant and recommend it highly. Great French food at reasonable prices. Only issue is parking is difficult. Go early to have enough time to find street parking or take Uber.

We had the mushroom risotto and the hanger steak and both were delicious. Service is amazing and they will do everything to make you feel welcomed. Make sure you save some room for the floating island desert. Definitely recommend!

I love France, like to cook French meals and was looking for a good French bistro for a birthday dinner. L'Ardois delivered - great meal, great servce, good wine selection, fair price, and nice ambience. A winner!

They offer a large range of delicious food. I liked eating here. Employees are always nice, rates are convenient and the spot is always well organised.

I went here for date night with my wife and I was very pleased with the service. We ordered Escargot, Shrimp Ravioli, Charcuterie for appetizers and Duck Leg Confit entree with a side of brussel sprouts and bacon. I liked how the escargo was delivered in a delicious green sauce and centered in a potato mesh (which I originally thought was a mushroom!) Shrimp Ravioli was very, very good, I'd have another one if I could. Charcuterie was okay, I was hoping for individual pate, instead it was slices of a meat mince medley. Duck Leg Confit was fall off the bone, and the sliced fried potatoes, with the salad was great! Meat was slightly dry but apparently it was slow cooked in its own fat for 7 hours. The Brussel Sprouts with Bacon was amazing.If I could come back, it would be for the shrimp Ravioli and brussel sprouts. Maybe I'll try the filet mignon next time. By the way, service was speedy and very friendly at the bar. Would come back!

Awesome service drinks and food. It was Ash Wednesday but couldn't help but try the lamb which was heavenly fabulous our appetizer with the seafood ravioli was also very good and buttery the chocolate dessert was good. Overall food was excellent. A bit on the pricey side and the portions could be bigger. But overall would recommend this place... Especially if someone is taking you ouy

Oh my, what a wonderful treat! I let my friend who lives near by order for me and we shared all of good. It was beyond fabulous! I am in love with it and will definitely ask Steven and Bill to take me back! Wine menu was fabulous staff was fabulous! I loved it!

Wow what wonderful meal. A quaint and lovely French restaurant in San Francisco. You must order the Traditional Duck Leg Confit and asked that the potatoes be deep fried. Delicious! By the way, everything else is also marvelous.

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was quant and the servers were attentive.

Sweet spot in residential neighborhood with intimate tables and charmer bistro storefront character. Cal-French staples are on deck to please most with a beef, chicken and fish focus mixed with veg risotto and tasty sides for balance. French wine list is amenable to the wallet. Service is sharp and friendly. Make a reservation as there is only an outdoor parklet for waiting.

Unexpectedly busy for a weeknight, but the hostess got us in without a reservation (sitting at the bar). Small space, but not in a bad way. The waiter helped us pick out a wine we'd enjoy with our meals (mushroom risotto and mushroom soup). The risotto was very flavorful but the rice was overcooked - not exactly mushy but not al dente either. The mushroom soup was perfect. Chocolate fondant was decadent and piping hot.

They have excellent food here. We went there for Valentine's Day dinner. The staff are very polite and nice too. Highly recommended.

Amazing little spot of France in the middle of San Francisco. L'Ardoise transported us to a little Parisian bistro both in ambiance and the quality of the food. The risotto was excellent as it was the pork choices. Get appetizers! They are excellent especially the soup of the day and the pâtes...and of course, make space for awesome wine to go with it all. Can't wait to go back!

Small intimate place, great friendly service, everything we ordered was excellent! We got the foie gras, black angus filet mignon, duck confit, and floating island dessert. Yumm.....

This French bistro is a unicorn. The service is gracious, warm and attentive without being overly familiar which seems to be the craze for restaurants these days. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. And it's easy to get a table which is not always the case in this area in San Francisco.

Very nice restaurant in the heart of Duboce Triangle. The menu is full of very tasty dishes, very French ones, it is delicious. The daily specials never disappointed me so far (I have been there twice).The bread is magical, the ambiance is cozy.I only have an outside picture for this because I was too busy savoring my scallops!This place remind me of home (yes I am French)The only detail that bugged me was the almost absence of vegetarian dishes (only the risotto is without meat or fish).
